Hey Anna,
Actually she still haven't given a reason but she will not be nude
even though she is nude at the nudist resort she works at.
I think this is because she is uncomfortable being nude around
textiles. And that's okay. Many nudists are. There's a difference
between being nude around like minded people and being nude around
people who either are hostile regarding nudity or have lewd thoughts
when seeing nude people.
That was exactly her reason why she said she wouldn't go nude on campus,
even though she has the support of her like minded friends. It's the Jocks
whom she is worried would give her a hard time if she was to nude up
herself.
By the way it seems that Marcia has chosen the
"Moral" (misunderstanding of theology) reason for her opposition
regarding public nudity. It might be interesting if Noodtoonist has
another character who opposes the public nudity because of "aesthetic
reasons" (sure at a college campus there's a lot of attractive females
that looks good nude but how about the males and the ones that society
determines for aesthetic reasons "shouldn't be nude". Also perhaps a
character who believes that public nudity leads to lewd behavior (it's
the behavior that nudity leads to and not the actual nudity that is
the problem).
I reckon that'd be a great idea if he was to do that. But I do believe that
people can learn to modify their behaviour in the same sense that you don't
see tribal people or European beachgoers having non-stop sex orgies over the
sight of others in the nude.
I guess that one is similar to Marcia's reasons
although her opposition seems mainly to do with her believe that the
Bible forbids public nudity and therefore the nudity itself regardless
of any behavior is wrong.
Of course given how Marcia is drawn I believe Noodtoonist has set it
up that subconciously her "real" reason for opposing public nudity is
because she is fat which I feel would be a cheap way to go because I
believe that there are people with moral problems with public nudity
that has nothing to do with them feeling that they wouldn't look good
being nude themselves.
Maybe it is. Have you ever read Louise Hay's books "Heal Your Body" and "I
Love My Body" at all? In them, she talks about the problems of obesity and
she says the probable underlying cause is due to personal insecurity and not
feeling one is good enough. So therefore they create thought patterns
within themselves in which they mentally and physically disfigure
themselves.

I am not so sure that's not true. If you real sociological articles
of tribal people many of them have some strange, yes, sick, sexual
practices including sex where others can see them doing it.

I meant that do the same tribal societies who have no problem seeing
people nude also have no problem with strange sexual practices?

Also very few societies, even tribal societies are true naked
societies. I believe there's a handful of them, but most of the tribal
societies you think of as naked, and indeed by our perception of the
idea naked seem like naked societies, are actually societies where
people do wear something, yeah, not much, not enough to cover totally
the parts that our society demands to be covered, but without this
covering as small as it is, the tribal people would feel "naked".

I do agree that over time, one can become more conditioned to seeing
nudity as no big deal, like nudists do, but we are probably talking
about after many, many, many generations.

And the trend is that as a society gets more sophisticated, it gets
less accepting of nudity. Before nudity was something that to some
extent couldn't be avoided (couldn't afford clothes for children, or
great effort to watch clothes) but with more wealth it is easier for
them to avoid the situations where nudity used to come up.
