Hello all,
I think it ought to work from both sides. Most people today are no longer
attracted to the old rustic run-down lodges out in the middle of nowhere for
their holiday vacations, and in the business world it is important that you
constantly upgrade and reinvent yourself in order to attract new customers.
Plus the younger generations need to be more open minded to the fact that
nude recreation can be fun on their own terms, and doesn't have to be about
pentanque, line dancing, horseshoe throwing, or any other stuff that the
over 50's tend to enjoy.
I reckon what the nudist places around the world ought to do is have an open
weekend whereby they put one on that is ONLY for people up to 40, where they
can make their own fun and do what makes them tick. The Australian clothing
optional festival ConFest is one great place to do it, but nude recreation
is not its main focus.
Maybe this is what some of the nudist clubs and resorts could also be doing
to get the young interested:
1) Nude Schoolies - a nudist version of schoolies week minus alcohol and
drug abuse. One of the American nudist resorts has done this twice with the
Naked Spring Bash - first year they got 40 youths turning up for it, and the
following year they got 155.
2) Dance party featuring doof-doof (slang for 'techno'), rap/R&B and
alternative rock music that's currently residing in the Top 40. See
http://www.ariacharts.com.au , http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/singles and
http://www.billboard.com for the music that makes young people tick
3) Another rock festival like RAW @ Caboolture, only this time allowing
cameras and not discriminating against people on account of their marital
status. Young people like to take photos of events they go to to share with
their friends. How do we except nudism to grow and shake off its
underground/weird image if we don't allow cameras to be used?
4) Discounted drinks and Happy Hours if your venue is a licensed one.
Though binge drinking is definitely not on, particularly with women who have
a hard time as it is dealing with drunken idiot guys in the mainstream bars
and nightclubs.
5) Updating their websites and having 'Like' buttons for Facebook, MySpace,
Bebo, Twitter, Orkut, Tumblr, Google Buzz and other internet site
applications that are popular with the young. A plain page which looks like
it was hammered out by somebody over 50 who does webpage design on the side
is not going to interest them. Put some background music on with a voice
over commentary about your site and venue, have some animation graphics and
flash videos of stuff that's going on at your venue. The website
http://www.clothesfree.com is adept at doing this, featuring their own
professional presenters. No reason why something like this cannot work in
Australia and other countries.
6) Organising energy intensive sports like nude soccer, rugby, wrestling,
pudding tosses (for non-Americans - it's a silly game where everyone gets
themselves messy by chucking tubs of vanilla and chocolate pudding mixes all
over each other with spoons), and of course volleyball.
7) *We must get Lady Gaga and Ke$ha to do an exclusive nudist resort tour!!*
since they are not averse to getting their kit off in public. ;-)
8) Workshops and screenings of public nude events like the World Naked Bike
Ride, World Naked Beach Party, Spencer Tunick movies. The environmentalist
and vegetarian movements do these things on a regular basis in order to win
over new people all the time. So there's no reason why the nudist resorts
can't do the same thing. We've got to work on taking the mountain to
Mohammed, rather than waiting for Mohammed to come to the mountain as they
say in the music biz. IOW: if you think that the nudist lifestyle is so
good that "it'll just sell itself", you could be waiting a long time for the
future generations to visit your place.
